In advance of its home event at the NHRA New England Nationals, the New Englander Funny Car team has hired veteran crew chief Mike Kloeber to tune its Cory Lee-driven machine.

Kloeber brings 40-plus years of experience to the team. Among his many accomplishments, Kloeber tuned Jim Epler’s Funny Car to the first 300-mph run in class history and tuned Clay Millican to 50 wins and six world IHRA championships in seven years.

Lee, the recent winner of the Bakersfield March Meet, returns as the driver of the New Englander Funny Car for the 2024 season. Lee brings decades of experience as a driver, crew chief, and team owner having learned from some of the legends of NHRA Funny Car racing, including Tom Hoover, Ed McCulloch, and Al Segrini. Recently, Lee drove Chuck and Del Worsham’s No. 2 car in 2017.

The New Englander Nitro Team was formed by Rhea Goodrich and Bob Simmons in 1976 as a Funny Car team. Over the last 48 years, Goodrich has been racing the New Englander name in either Top Fuel or Funny Car, mostly in the Northeast.
