Vandergriff gaining confidence and making new memories at hometown Pomona track
The last time — well, the only other time — that Jordan Vandergriff raced down the Pomona dragstrip was in Top Fuel in 2019, and he enters Saturday as the No. 1 qualifier, driving the Cornwell Quality Tools Chevrolet formerly driven by the guy he beat in that first round seven years ago, Austin Prock.

If the racers are right — and they usually are — the final day of qualifying at the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals will erase much of what was accomplished Friday like an overnight rain shower, as all three low qualifiers insist that their field-leading Friday numbers would not remain atop the field.

Leah Pruett jumped to the top spot in Top Fuel at the 66th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals. Jordan Vandergriff (Funny Car) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) are also the provisional No. 1 qualifiers at the third of 20 races during the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.

55 years ago, Don Garlits forever changed the look, feel, and future of Top Fuel racing
Fifty-five years ago, Don Garlits' Top Fuel win in a rear-engine dragster at the 1971 NHRA Winternationals changed the class and the sport. Since the summer of 1972, the last 974 Top Fuel winners have all had the engine behind them. Here's a look at that transitional time in class history.
