Longtime NHRA drag racer and newly crowned Factory X world champion Greg Stanfield will return to NHRA Pro Stock racing in 2025 under the Elite Motorsports banner alongside his son, 2024 championship contender Aaron Stanfield.

Greg Stanfield has put together a multiyear deal to represent Janac Brothers Racing and The Rod Shop, associate sponsors PDQ and Roasters, and the rest of the Elite Motorsports family of partners beginning at the season-opening Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway March 7-9 in Florida.

“I’m excited. To have the opportunity to race professionally with my son, that’s something I can’t pass up,” Greg said. “Richard Freeman (Elite Motorsports owner) has created such a good foundation for racers at Elite Motorsports. When I raced before, everyone had their own engine program. This takes the pressure off trying to build engines, tune them, race them. This way I get all the fun and less of the worrying.

“Everyone is really excited about this. Aaron was a huge advocate for me getting back into Pro Stock racing,” Greg said. “Joe and David Janac are so supportive and of course are already part of the Elite family. We are also thankful for the support of Rick and Gil Kirk of the Rod Shop along with Pat Quinn and Craig Gaultiere. Knowing how much everyone has rallied around this decision makes me all the more excited.”

Greg is a drag racing seasoned veteran having competed and won in six different classes including Pro Stock, Pro Stock Truck, Super Stock, Stock, Competition Eliminator, and Factory X. He was Super Stock Champion in 1990, 1992-1994 and 2021. He started racing in Pro Stock in 2002 and posted a handful of Top 10 finishes. In 2008 he secured his first Pro Stock win at the Texas Motorplex and in 2010 he won the U.S. Nationals en route to finishing runner-up in the Pro Stock championship chase.

“We’re looking forward to bringing Greg fully into the Elite Motorsports fold. He’s already an extended member of the family being Aaron’s dad and out here racing national events,” said Freeman. “It’s going to be good to see him back in a Pro Stock car. Things have changed a little bit since he was racing Pro Stock almost 20 years ago but he’s badass, so we’re excited to have him on board.”

Stanfield was the first official winner in the Holley EFI Factory X class, picking up the Wally earlier this year in Las Vegas, and finished the season with four victories to earn the first Factory X world championship.
