Mountain Motor Pro Stock class set to make 2023 season debut in Chicago
The classic Ford versus Chevy rivalry will come to life in the form of 800-plus-cubic-inch Mountain Motor Pro Stock cars at this weekend’s Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by Peak Performance in the Chicago market. The Mountain Motor Pro Stock class will make its debut at Route 66 Raceway with multiple former champions in pursuit of a win at the opening event. The class at this event will be presented by Menards home improvement stores, which has supported Mountain Motor Pro Stock racing in previous seasons with its vendors.
Former Mountain Motor champions John Montecalvo, Johnny Pluchino, and Elijah Morton will take on several homestate favorites, including Tony Gillig, from Huntley, Ill., who made it to several final rounds in the class last year, and Bill Neri, from Barrington, Ill. Additional competitors in the class from the Land of Lincoln include Dennis Firkus, from Franklin Park, Ill., and Pete Berner, from Crete, Ill., who will be driving one of two Elite Motorsports entries.
The other Elite Motorsports Mountain Motor Pro Stock entry will be wheeled by multitime NHRA 500-inch Pro Stock class champion Erica Enders. The Elite team competed in an event with their new Mountain Motor entries in Bradenton, Fla., earlier this year to get used to the equipment acquired from NHRA former class champion J.R. Carr.
