In addition to his Funny Car driving duties for Jim Dunn Racing, Alex Laughlin will also be competing in Comp eliminator at this year’s Menards NHRA Nationals presented by PetArmor at Heartland Motorsports Park.

Laughlin, who currently holds 10 different NHRA class licenses (Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Mod, Mountain Motor Pro Stock, Top Alcohol Dragster, Comp eliminator, Top Dragster, Super Comp, Advanced ET) will also be racing his dad’s new ProCharger-equipped Camaro.

Laughlin notes that he has raced almost as many double-duty races between different Pro and Sportsman classes over the years as he has single-entry events.

“This will be the first time this season I will get to pull double duty at an NHRA national event,” he said. “Heartland Park has been one of the semi-local tracks I’ve raced at for years before any professional categories.”

Funny Car team manager Jon Dunn and Laughlin are on the same page for a busy race weekend.

“We are excited for Alex to get to race his dad’s Comp eliminator car at Topeka along with the Funny Car,” he said. “He has brought a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to our team this year, and we know we will all have a lot of fun this weekend. Topeka has become a special place for us thanks to our relationship with Menards. They have been a great supporter of our Funny Car with primary and associate sponsorship support for many years now.”

Everything will get started on Thursday, Aug. 10 when the team brings its Funny Car to the Menards store in Topeka, where Laughlin will be signing autographs for fans from 5:30-7 p.m.
