Virginia NHRA Nationals Pro Mod pit notes

In memory of Jim Luikens

Tylor Miller raced to his first win in the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon at the Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park. Miller drove his Pee Dee Fleet ‘20 Chev Camero to a 5.798-seconds at 251.02 mph, beating his teammate and multi-time champion Rickie Smith. In only his third race on the NHRA tour, Miller has collected his first win. Miller now sits third in points; seven rounds behind current points leader Kris Thorne, who lost in the third round to Smith.

  • Race day showed that nitrous cars had the upper hand, running consistently low 5.80-second passes. This translated into an all-nitrous final round.
  • With only one turbo car registered Lyle Barnett showed that turbo cars are still quick by recording the best e.t. in eliminations. Barnett's consistent runs paired with great reaction times will keep him as a contender for the championship throughout the season.
  • For the third consecutive race, the Roots superchargers continue to struggle on race day. Of the seven registered Roots cars, one has made it past the second round all year. Could this lack of performance lead to a possible rule change? We will have to wait and see.
  • The FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon will miss the next two scheduled NHRA races and return to Summit Motorsports Park for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals on June 23-26.
