NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals

In addition to the Camping World Series action at Bristol Dragway, five winners were crowned in Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series action at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals.

Appearing in his first national event final since the 2015 Gainesville race, Mike Crutchfield, picked up his fifth career victory after opponent Scott Libersher fouled in the Super Stock final. Crutchfield was red behind Libersher and sealed the win with a 9.06 on his 9.09 dial. Libersher was also a quarterfinalist in the Constant Aviation NHRA Factory Stock Showdown. [video]

A month after winning his first career national event title in Charlotte, Daren Poole-Adams, struck again in Bristol with his Holley EFI FS/C Camaro. Poole-Adams won his second Stock Wally with a 9.667 on his 9.67 dial after veteran class and bracket racer Todd “Bones” Ewing fouled in the final. Ewing was appearing in his 14th NHRA national event final. [video]

Shawn Langdon may be better known recently for his Top Fuel career, but the two-time Super Comp world champ showed that he still knows his way around index racing by defeating Richmond winner John Labbous Jr. for his milestone 25th career win, seven of which have come in the Sportsman ranks. Langdon just missed a rare Pro/Sportsman double victory when he lost in the final round of Top Fuel. [video]

Chris Lewis made the long trek up from Georgia pay off with his first career national event score, driving his '68 Camaro to a near-perfect 9.902 in the Super Gas final round to defeat Tennessean Ausby Brewington, who had the holeshot lead but broke out by .003-second in his ’78 Mercury Zephyr. [video]

Tyler Caheely has now won three NHRA national event titles, and all three have come at Bristol Dragway. Caheely won the double-breakout Top Sportsman presented by Vortech Superchargers final against Cole Prejean by driving his Cavalier to a 6.811 on his 6.82 dial. Prejean probably deserved a better fate after cutting a .002 light in the quarterfinals and a .001 in the semi’s. [video]
