NHRA Top Fuel driver Joe Morrison joined respected journalist Ted Koppel and his wife, Grace Anne, legendary musicians Lyle Lovett, Rodney Crowell, and Steve Earle to help bring awareness to a subject very close to all of them: COPD. November is COPD Awareness Month. The special event was shown Friday, Nov. 19  on Lyle Lovett’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, and LyleLovett.com

This blend of music and conversation helpED promote the Koppels' website COPDSOS.org and also encouraged people to take the Right2Breathe COPD Risk Assessment Questionnaire on COPDSOS.org.

The concert can be viewed here. Morrison appears at about the 5:40 mark into the presentation.

“Grace Anne contacted me over the winter to see if Right2Breathe could support the COPDSOS project. I was honored when she asked if I would like to be a part of the program,” said Morrison. “The mission to find the people who have COPD and don’t know it yet is deeply personal to me. If my dad had been diagnosed earlier, it’s likely he’d still be alive. I know we can help others have more time with their loved ones.”

Morrison has been friends with the Koppels for more than eight years, and together, they are working to help millions of Americans who are living with COPD but haven’t been diagnosed.

“It’s a major challenge because there is between 12 and 15 million Americans with COPD, and they’re unaware of what awaits them if they don’t get treatment, for one simple reason — they haven’t been diagnosed,” said Koppel. “Joe Morrison and Right to Breathe are in the front lines of helping us identify the missing millions, and we’re grateful to have Joe’s support.”

“The fact that Ted and Grace Anne are also deeply committed to the COPD Community is inspiring to me,” added Morrison.
