Heritage Series Nightfire Nationals celebrates 50th year Aug. 6-8 at Firebird

One of the largest motorsports events in the Pacific Northwest, the Nightfire Nationals, part of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series, will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on Friday-Sunday, Aug. 6-8, at Firebird Raceway.

One of the largest motorsports events in the Pacific Northwest, the Nightfire Nationals, will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on Friday-Sunday, Aug. 6-8, at Firebird Raceway.

The track’s signature Nitro event will feature an impressive field of AA/Funny Cars, AA/Fuel Altereds, AA/Fuel Dragsters, Pro Modified doorslammers, throughout the three-day event in August. The Nightfire is a key points stop for AA/FC and AA/FD in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series.

The Nitro Funny Car field will be led by defending NHRA Heritage Series national champ and reigning Nightfire winner Bobby Cottrell and the “Northwest Hitter” Austin & O’Brien team. In Top Fuel, the current point’s leader, Dan Horan Jr., will be one of the favorites after winning the March Meet and finishing runner-up in Bowling Green, Ky. Defending Nightfire champion Tom Padilla will lead a large field of AA/Fuel Altereds. And in Pro Mod, the Kirk Kuhns Corvette driven by Jeremy Hanger, which won the March Meet, will be a favorite heading into the 50th.

In addition, nightly exhibition runs will also take place by Ed “the Outlaw” Jones and his amazing wheelstanding Stage Coach, along with a pair of 280 mph Jet Cars that will close out the show each evening.

Professional qualifying will take place at 8 p.m. on Aug. 6; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Aug. 7, and championship finals starting at noon on Sun., Aug. 8.
