Cottrell scores 50th NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor title

Reigning NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Funny Car national champion Bobby Cottrell won the 50th Anniversary of the NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor Opener presented by Peterson Chevrolet at Firebird Raceway.

Coined the Stinker Stores Nitro Knockout, twelve Funny Car teams battled for a spot in Sunday’s 8-car field. Qualifying was led by Cottrell at 5.64, low e.t. of the meet, and followed by Michael Peck (5.69 and top speed of the meet at 259.81), Billy Morris (5.72), Kris Krabill (5.75), James Day (5.76), Geoff Monise (5.91), Kamaka Pocock (5.97) and Jerry Espeseth (6.07).

In the championship final, the “Northwest Hitter” Austin & O’Brien team would deliver a holeshot 5.69-249.49 victory over Peck who finished at 5.68-252.05.

Other Ignitor-50 Boise Muffler Gold Cup champions included: Scott Holbrook and Jason Thomas (Super Pro), Courtney Alley and Chris Wingert (Pro), Connor New and David Deming (Sportsman) and Mike Cragun and Roy Barrera Sr. (Sled/Bike).
