On April 19, 2019, longtime NHRA member Larry Meyers drove his ’72 Dodge Challenger to a victory in the 11.50 Index class at his home track, Pueblo Motorsports Park near his home in Elizabeth, Colo. At the time, Meyers had no way of knowing that win would produce an unexpected benefit, specifically a $500 gift certificate from Precision Shaft Technologies, a diverse driveshaft manufacturer for all types of racing and individual applications.

Meyers won the prize as part of National Dragster’s long-running Be A Winner, Be a Member program that awards monthly prizes to NHRA Members who win regular-season bracket races at NHRA member tracks. The prizes come from organizations and manufacturer’s as a way of showing their support of NHRA Drag Racing and NHRA’s vast membership network. To show their support, these companies also offer NHRA Members discounts and deals.

On January 28, 2020, a grateful Meyers posted the following to his Facebook page:

“First of all, thanks to NHRA for the Be a Winner, Be a Member program and a big thanks to Precision Shaft Technologies for a free drive shaft they gave to the program. They made it for me today in less than five hours. The award was for $500. They made me 3.5" aluminum driveshaft for the 727 [transmission], free. Great folks!”

For more than two decades, NHRA racers just like Meyers have been reaping the rewards of the Be a Winner, Be a Member program. Companies that support the program include Aerospace Components, Altronics, ATI Transmissions, Chris Alston’s Chassis Works, Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School, Gillis Performance, Hughes Performance, Inland Empire Driveline, Justice Bros., US Gear, K-Motion, Phoenix Tires, Precision Performance Products, PST, QA-1, Taylor Enterprises, and Race Ramps.

The Be a Winner, Be a Member program is open to full NHRA members who win a bracket racing event at their local track. Drawings are held eight times each year. Full contest rules are available online at www.nhra.net/Beawinner/. Racers with questions regarding entries and the program can e-mail etracing@nhra.com or call 626-250-2331.
