NHRA officials have released a revised 2020 schedule for Mountain Motor Pro Stock category, which will now compete at four NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events. The MMPS class will race July 9-12 at the Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, and will also be showcased at the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver (July 17-19), the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd (August 13-16), and will wrap up at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals in St. Louis (October 2-4). Each event will feature an eight-car qualified field.

The Mountain Motor Pro Stock class has become a popular feature at NHRA events over the past two seasons. Similar in appearance to their 500-cubic inch NHRA counterparts, the Mountain Motor class features engines measuring more than 800-cubic inches along with carburetors and hood scoops. Producing nearly 2,000 horsepower, the Mountain Motor Pro Stock cars are capable of 6.2-second elapsed times at speeds over 225-mph.

Last year, the MMPS cars were featured at four NHRA events with John DeFlorian Jr. earning a pair of victories while Chris Powers and Todd Hoerner also earned wins. DeFlorian, the shop foreman at Jerry Haas Race Cars in St. Louis, drove his Camaro to wins in Houston and Epping. Powers won the event at the Four-Wide Charlotte race while Hoerner claimed victory in Bristol. All four three drivers are expected to take part in this year’s events.
