NHRA Jr. Drag Racers headed for Tulsa and the Western Conference Finals
The first of two national events in the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League is on the horizon, and racers will soon be heading to Osage Tulsa Raceway Park for the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing Western Conference Finals. This year’s event for the fourth consecutive season on June 22-26 and it is expected to draw hundreds of racers from throughout the western United States and Canada to compete for the coveted Wally, prize money, and bragging rights.
Osage Tulsa Raceway Park is a member of NHRA’s Division 4, South Central Division, and is outside of downtown Tulsa, Okla. The facility acquired the Western Conference Finals in 2016 and continues to grow the event each season.
“Osage Tulsa Raceway Park is thrilled to be hosting the Western Conference Finals for the fourth time,” said Todd Martin, co-owner of Osage Tulsa Raceway Park. “The staff looks forward to all the Jr. racers coming; it’s a week of racing, games, food, and friends, and we have a lot of Jr. activities planned leading up to the Western Conference Finals. The event just keeps growing and getting better each year. I would like to extend a personal invitation to all the NHRA Jr. racers and families.”
The defending event champions are Tyler Janousek (age 6-9), Brody Tigue (10), Hunter Millican (11), Lilly Kinnen (12), Body Bennett (13), Charlie Burkevics (14), Ian Theofelis (15), and Tyler Lloyd (16-17). Bremerton Raceway is the defending team champion.
The Western Conference Finals will feature eight age categories — 6-9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16-17 — and a team competition. Winners in each age bracket will take home Wallys as well as the largest portion of the race purse. Wallys will also be awarded to the 10-member team that tallies the most points during eliminations.
The Western Conference Finals is open to all JDRL participants. However, to compete for the team championship, a racer must qualify for a team from one of NHRA’s member tracks in Divisions 4, 5, 6, or 7.
NON-TRACK TEAM ROSTER PARTICIPANTS:
While we always celebrate winning the Conference Finals events and representing your home track, attending the events is also about building friendships and relationships with fellow Summit Jr Drag Racing League families from all across the country, and in some cases around the world. While the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the racing schedules for many NHRA Member Tracks, we want all Summit Jr Drag Racing League members to have the full experience of attending the conference finals events and being a part of the team atmosphere.
For 2020, Jr Drag Racing League licensed competitors will still be eligible to participate in the conference finals events without being on a Track Team Championship roster.
Competitors that did not qualify to be on an NHRA Member Track team roster will not be eligible to win the TRACK TEAM championship and trophies related to the team championship.
These competitors will be placed on a non-points earning team with team code “WP” for “Wally Parks” and encouraged to participate in all other team-related activities during the week: Wally Parks Team Signup
