NHRA officials announced today that the Real Pro Mod Association (RPM) has been named the presenting sponsor for the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service portion of the upcoming Virginia NHRA Nationals, which takes place this weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park. It is the fifth of 12 races during the 2018 E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service season.

In Richmond, race fans will be treated to the thrilling action of the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service, which has already featured memorable thrills and exciting action in 2018. Nearly 30 standout drivers will compete for a victory at Virginia Motorsports Park in a class that offers something unique for every kind of hot-rodding enthusiast, highlighted by historic muscle cars like the ’67 Mustang, ’68 Firebird and ’69 Camaro, as well as a variety of late model American muscle cars. Producing more than 3,000 horsepower, the suspended door pro mod cars travel the quarter-mile in less than six seconds at speeds of more than 250 mph.

“With a strong Pro Mod fanbase in the area, we are thrilled to see the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service return to Virginia Motorsports Park this weekend,” said Brad Gerber, NHRA vice president and chief development officer. “The Real Pro Mod Association is a valuable partner to the NHRA, and they have played a key role in the continued growth of the class.”

The RPM Association was created by Pro Mod team owners and drivers to preserve and promote the future of the category, helping fuel strong participation and interest in the class. The 2018 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service season is showcased in a 12-race schedule, including its first stop at Virginia Motorsports Park since 2009. Three-time world champion Rickie Smith is the current points leader, picking up his second win of the season in Topeka. Other season winners are Jim Whiteley and Jose Gonzalez, while other top competitors include standouts like Stevie “Fast” Jackson, Chad Green, Mike Janis, Mike Castellana, Todd Tutterow, Bob Rahaim and former world champion Khalid AlBalooshi. All 12 races during the 2018 season will air on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and FOX Sports 2 (FS2).

“The Pro Mod class is really excited to return to Virginia Motorsports Park this weekend,” said John Waldie of the Real Pro Mod Association. “The track is amazing, it’s really fast and track owner Tommy Franklin has put together a world-class facility. So far, the competition (in 2018) has never been better. All three power-adders have won a race, and the parity makes for a highly competitive and exciting show for the fans. With lots of fresh faces like Chad Green, who was the runner-up at Topeka, and Jose Gonzalez, who won at Charlotte, this season is more exciting than it has ever been.”
