Pacific Division finale wraps up at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Kim Parker and Chris Marshall took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
 
Parker, Graham, Wash., qualified No. 1, then took out Dan Mercier and Johnny Ahten in rounds one and two to advance to the alcohol dragster final against Shawn Cowie who qualified No. 2. Cowie knocked out Matt Sackman and Duane Shields on his way to the final. Parker was out first as Cowie shook the tires and Parker led from start to finish clocking in at 5.604 seconds at 259.21 mph for her second regional event win.
 
Marshall came from the No. 4 spot and advanced to the funny car final with wins over 2017 World Champion Shane Westerfield and Jirka Kaplan. Ulf Leanders of Sweden took out Steve Burck and John Lombardo Jr. on his way to the final.
 
Marshall, McMinnville, Ore., took the holeshot and needed it to hold off the quicker Leanders. Marshall went 5.473 at 268.01 to defeat Leanders’ 5.453, 268.01.
 
Brian Hyerstay and Pete Peery took home the trophies in Comp and Super Stock respectively. Hyerstay put Tony Mandella on the trailer while Peery won over Justin Lamb who had just clinched the 2018 Super Stock World Championship earlier in the day.
 
In the division’s Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes, Ed Olpin beat Steve Casner and Jeff Gillette won over Paul Mitsos. 
 
Rounding out the winners were Joe Sorensen in Stock; Matt Woodard in Super Comp; Chris Cannon in Super Gas; and Ryan Herem in Super Street. In the Sportsman Motorcycle class, it was local runner Kahea Woods out of Las Vegas taking the win over Eric Jaquith.

PREVIEW

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway host the Pacific Divisions final race on November 1-4. The event is the last of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points towards championships and a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series and Top Dragster Series. 

The event also marks the final stop on the nationwide series to earn points toward regional and divisional championships for all classes and the second to last stop for NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series National Championship points.

Gates at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Thursday morning at 8 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify on Thursday at 3 p.m. and Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman start eliminations Saturday at noon. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes make test runs on Thursday at 2 and 6 p.m. Qualifying for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car start Friday at 3 p.m. and continue Saturday at 12:30 and 4 p.m. Eliminations start Saturday at 8 a.m. and continue Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run eliminations starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway are $25 each day. Children 6-14 years old are $5 each day and children 5 and under are free with a paid adult.
