RISING SUN, Md – Troy Coughlin Jr., Delaware, Ohio, and Dan Pomponio, Berlin, N.J., raced to the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Cecil County Dragway. 
 
Coughlin, a winner earlier this year in Norwalk, Ohio, qualified his JEGS.com alcohol dragster in the number two spot then took out Thomas Fox and Dan Mercier in rounds one and two to set up the final round match up with No. 1 qualifier Doug Foley. Foley was out first by the smallest of margins but quickly had issues as Coughlin sped by posting a 5.359 second, 271.08 mph pass for the win.
 
“All credit to the guys at McPhillips Racing," said Coughlin. "To come into this class as a rookie and get to work with a top organization like this is more than I could have ever asked for. Rich (McPhillips) and the rest of the crew work with so much passion for this sport.”
 
Pomponio also qualified second, took out Jeff McCullock in round one and had a bye in the semis to move on to funny car final with number one qualifier Phil Burkart. Pomponio laid down his best run of eliminations in a 5.639 at 256.06 to defeat Burkart who turned on the red at the starting line.
 
In Super Stock and Super Gas two drivers won their first divisional race of the season. A. Lincoln Moorhead, Marlboro, N.Y., had a winning run of 9.727 seconds at 125.95 mph in his ’87 Camaro and Mike Sawyer, Leominster, Mass., crossed the finish line at 9.935 seconds, 166.29 mph in his ’18 Corvette. 
 
Other racers visiting the winner’s circle this weekend were Randy Daniels, Grantsboro, N.C., in Comp Eliminator; James Williamson, New Bern, N.C., in Stock Eliminator; Jack Sepanek, Moosic, Pa., in Super Comp and Taylor Iacono, Shamong, N.J., in Super Street. In the division’s MXI Magnaflux Top Sportsman class it was Michael Cerro, Mineola, N.Y., taking the win while Carmen Mollichella, West Chester, Pa., won in Top Dragster along with  Heath Smith, Westmoreland, N.Y., the winner in Pro Stock Snow Mobile. 
 
In the winner’s circle for the Summit Jr Dragster series presented by Direct Cabinet Sales were Matt Schell, Glenmore, Pa., in 13-17 year-old class; Justin Handwerk, Edison, N.J., in 10-12 year old class and Emily Stalba, Hammonton, N.J., in 6-9 year old class. 
 
This weekend the Top 8 series was in full swing and visiting the winners circle were David Long, Wallingford, Pa., in Super Comp; Jeff Fischer, New Alexandria, Pa., in Super Gas and Brain Sawyer, Lunenburg, Mass., Super Street. In Super Stock and Stock Top 8 presented by ATI it was A. Lincoln Morehead, Marlboro, N.J., and Lenny Williams, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

RISING SUN, Md. – NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northeast division arrives at Cecil County Dragway for the Northeast Shootout on Aug. 17-19. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will run in conjunction with the event along with the Ultimax Pro Stock Snowmobile

Gates at Cecil County Dragway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials are Friday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 2 and 6 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00 with eliminations beginning at 11:30. The Top Dragster and Top Sportsman qualify on Friday and Saturday morning with round one of eliminations on Saturday at 6 p.m. Eliminations for all classes continue Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Round two of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will start at 11 a.m.
