With his quarterfinal win over D.J. Cox in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the Carolina Nationals presented by WIX Filters, Sean Bellemeur became the first driver to officially clinch a 2018 NHRA Lucas Oil Series national championship.

Bellemeur drove Tony Bartone's Steve Boggs-tuned Hussey Performance Camaro to a strong 5.38 to defeat Cox and put the wraps on his first national championship.

Bartone is a former world champion in the category as a driver, collecting the title in 1996.
