Michigan rolled into U.S. 131 Motorsports Park on Monday.

In a remarkable show of support following Sunday’s weather postponement, race fans packed the facility for the conclusion of the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR. The unexpected Monday crowd came to see champions crowned in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle as the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series completed its historic return to Michigan.

Top Fuel Round 1 recap 

 Shawn Langdon delivered the quickest and fastest run of Monday’s opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR, powering to a 3.652-second pass at 344.04 mph to defeat Maddi Gordon.

No. 1 qualifier and Michigan native Doug Kalitta continued his impressive weekend with a 3.661 at 333.09 mph against Kyle Satenstein, while Antron Brown advanced with a strong 3.682 at 339.62 mph after Clay Millican lost traction.

Tony Stewart won the closest race of the round, using a .034 reaction time and a 3.725 at 289.95 mph to edge Kyle Wurtzel’s quicker 3.714 at 332.84 mph by just .0037 second.

Will Smith was nearly perfect on the starting line with a .008 reaction time, then ran 3.699 at 336.83 mph to defeat Leah Pruett’s 3.766. Billy Torrence advanced past Justin Ashley with a 3.736 at 312.07 mph, while Spencer Massey’s 3.722 at 329.67 mph defeated Tony Schumacher.

Josh Hart also moved into the quarterfinals after Shawn Reed left the starting line .005 second too soon.

Funny Car Round 1 recap

Jack Beckman led the opening round of Funny Car eliminations at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR, recording the quickest run of the session with a 3.832-second pass at 337.08 mph to defeat Jeff Diehl.

Ron Capps was close behind with a strong 3.859 at 339.37 mph, the fastest speed of the round, after Chad Green encountered trouble early. Alexis DeJoria advanced with a 3.884 at 335.07 mph when Hunter Green failed to complete the run.

The round’s biggest surprise came when Jordan Vandergriff advanced past No. 1 qualifier Austin Prock. Both drivers ran into trouble, with Vandergriff slowing to a 10.105 and Prock recording a 4.917, but it was Vandergriff who received the win light.

Dan Wilkerson won the closest race of the round, edging Spencer Hyde by just .0101 second. Hyde left first by .0001 second, but Wilkerson’s 3.909 at 328.23 mph narrowly defeated Hyde’s 3.920 at 328.95 mph.

Terry Haddock advanced with a 3.959 at 317.35 mph (one of his best runs ever) after Cruz Pedregon slowed to a 5.096. Matt Hagan defeated Joey Haas with a 4.287 at 303.85 mph, while J.R. Todd’s 3.925 at 336.57 mph carried him past Dave Richards and into the quarterfinals.

Pro Stock Round 1 recap

Jeg Coughlin Jr. led the opening round of Pro Stock eliminations at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR, delivering the quickest and fastest run of the session with a 6.503-second pass at 210.97 mph to defeat Erica Enders.

The round’s biggest upset came when Deric Kramer advanced past Dallas Glenn. Glenn encountered trouble almost immediately and slowed to a 15.929 at 67.05 mph, allowing Kramer to move into the quarterfinals with a 6.573 at 209.21 mph.

No. 1 qualifier Matt Hartford survived a strong starting-line challenge from Shane Tucker. Tucker grabbed a .012-second advantage at the tree, but Hartford made up the difference with a 6.516 at 210.67 mph to defeat Tucker’s 6.549 by .0201 second.

Greg Anderson remained in contention with a 6.514 at 209.40 mph, defeating Aaron Stanfield’s 6.536. Greg Stanfield also advanced, combining a .018 reaction time with a 6.510 at 210.28 mph to turn back Eric Latino.

Troy Coughlin Jr. left with an outstanding .009 reaction time and ran 6.511 at 210.58 mph to defeat Matt Latino. Cody Anderson completed the list of quarterfinalists with a 6.522 at 209.79 mph against Kenny Delco.

Pro Stock Motorcycle Round 1 recap

No. 1 qualifier Ryan Oehler delivered the quickest and fastest run of the opening round of Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR. Racing on a competition bye, Oehler powered to a 6.727-second pass at 200.45 mph to advance to the quarterfinals.

Angie Smith was the quickest rider in contested racing, posting a 6.747 at 199.82 mph after Wesley Wells did not make a run. Matt Smith joined her in Round 2 with a 6.778 at 198.68 mph to defeat Mathieu Dube.

Ronald Procopio Jr. produced the best reaction time of the round with a nearly perfect .006 light. His 6.946 at 170.20 mph was enough to advance against Geno Scali, who recorded a quicker 6.928 but did not receive the win light.

John Hall ran 6.788 at 198.41 mph to defeat Clayton Howey’s 6.823, while Richard Gadson powered to a 6.790 at 199.03 mph against Mark Paquette.

Chase Van Sant advanced with a 6.842 at 197.72 mph after Steve Johnson slowed to a 7.157. Marc Ingwersen completed the quarterfinal field with a 6.997 at 192.55 mph to defeat Gaige Herrera, who slowed to a 7.152 at 147.16 mph.

Top Fuel Round 2 recap

Tony Stewart delivered the quickest and fastest run of the Top Fuel quarterfinals at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR, powering to a 3.653-second pass at 343.51 mph to defeat Antron Brown, who slowed to a 4.054.

No. 1 qualifier Doug Kalitta won a dramatic holeshot race against Billy Torrence. Torrence recorded the quicker pass with a 3.686 at 339.62 mph, but Kalitta’s .029 reaction time provided the advantage he needed. Kalitta’s 3.693 at 339.88 mph secured the win by .0243 second.

Shawn Langdon continued his strong Monday performance, combining a .019 reaction time with a 3.686 at 342.73 mph to defeat Will Smith’s 3.722 at 335.82 mph.

Spencer Massey completed the semifinal field with a 3.748 at 327.99 mph after Josh Hart lost traction and slowed to a 7.511.

The results set up semifinal meetings between Stewart and Massey, and Kalitta and Langdon.

Funny Car Round 2 recap

Jack Beckman delivered the quickest and fastest run of the Funny Car quarterfinals at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR, powering to a 3.841-second pass at 334.08 mph after Ron Capps lost traction and slowed to a 7.056.

Jordan Vandergriff continued his impressive Monday with a strong 3.871 at 333.09 mph to defeat Dan Wilkerson’s 3.911 at 332.59 mph. Vandergriff secured the win by .0355 second and advanced to face Matt Hagan in the semifinals.

Hagan earned his semifinal berth with a 3.885 at 330.40 mph after Alexis DeJoria encountered trouble and slowed to a 7.435.

J.R. Todd won the closest race of the round, combining a .034 reaction time with a 3.985 at 320.06 mph to defeat Terry Haddock’s 4.012 at 312.93 mph by .0827 second.

The results set up semifinal meetings between Vandergriff and Hagan, and Beckman and Todd.

Pro Stock Round 2 recap

Greg Stanfield delivered the quickest run of the Pro Stock quarterfinals at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR, recording a 6.519-second pass at 209.40 mph to narrowly defeat Cody Anderson’s 6.542. The margin of victory was just .0017 second, making it the closest race of the round.

Troy Coughlin Jr. used a nearly perfect .009 reaction time to score a holeshot victory over Greg Anderson. Anderson ran the quicker 6.530 at 209.59 mph, but Coughlin’s starting-line advantage allowed his 6.528 at 208.62 mph to reach the finish line first by .0189 second.

Jeg Coughlin Jr. joined his nephew in the semifinals with a 6.527 at a round-best 209.89 mph, defeating Deric Kramer’s 6.560 at 208.82 mph.

No. 1 qualifier Matt Hartford received a competition bye and completed the required run with a 7.093 at 140.10 mph.

The results set up semifinal meetings between Hartford and Troy Coughlin Jr., and Greg Stanfield and Jeg Coughlin Jr.

Pro Stock Motorcycle Round 2 recap

The Pro Stock Motorcycle quarterfinals produced a pair of dramatic holeshot victories at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR.

Ronald Procopio Jr. used a superb .018 reaction time to defeat Angie Smith, who recorded the quickest pass of the round. Smith ran 6.743 at 198.94 mph, but her .142 reaction time allowed Procopio’s 6.806 at 197.63 mph to reach the finish line first by .0608 second.

John Hall also won on a holeshot, leaving with a .014 reaction time against Matt Smith’s .079. Smith posted the quicker elapsed time with a 6.764 at 198.85 mph, but Hall’s 6.809 at a round-best 199.82 mph secured the win by just .0184 second.

No. 1 qualifier Ryan Oehler remained in contention with the quickest winning run of the round, a 6.755 at 195.91 mph, to defeat Chase Van Sant’s 6.828 at 197.28 mph.

Marc Ingwersen advanced with a 6.818 at 196.51 mph against Richard Gadson, who recorded a quicker 6.744 at 199.65 mph but did not receive the win light.

The results set up semifinal meetings between Ingwersen and Procopio, and Hall and Oehler.

 Shawn Langdon and Spencer Massey advanced to the Top Fuel final at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR after a pair of dramatic semifinals at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.

Langdon delivered the performance of the round, powering to a 3.663-second pass at a booming 346.95 mph —the fastest pass in Top Fuel history!—to defeat No. 1 qualifier Doug Kalitta. Kalitta grabbed the starting-line advantage with a .014 reaction time but encountered trouble downtrack and slowed to a 5.539 at 139.02 mph.

In the other semifinal, Tony Stewart left first with a .029 reaction time, but his dragster immediately spun the tires. Massey drove away with the win, posting a 4.594 at 165.81 mph as Stewart slowed to a 9.489.

The results set up a Top Fuel final between Langdon and Massey, with both drivers seeking to become the first NHRA Top Fuel winner at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.

Funny Car semifinal recap

Matt Hagan and No. 16 qualifier Jordan Vandergriff advanced to the Funny Car final at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR following two exceptionally close semifinal races.

Hagan used a starting-line advantage to drive his Dodge Charger Hellcat past Jack Beckman’s Camaro Funny Car. The two former world champions recorded identical 3.864-second passes at 333.09 mph, but Hagan’s .029 reaction time gave him the holeshot victory over Beckman’s .041 light. The margin at the finish line was just .0121 second.

Vandergriff continued his remarkable run from the final qualifying position, leaving with a near-perfect .007 reaction time and posting a 3.896 at 327.75 mph to defeat J.R. Todd’s 3.899 at 336.83 mph. Vandergriff reached the finish line first by .0359 second.

The results set up a Funny Car final between Hagan and Vandergriff, with the veteran Dodge driver facing the No. 16 qualifier for the first Funny Car trophy awarded at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.

Pro Stock semifinal recap

No. 1 qualifier Matt Hartford and Troy Coughlin Jr. advanced to the Pro Stock final at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR after delivering outstanding performances on the starting line.

Hartford won a thrilling holeshot race against Greg Stanfield. Stanfield recorded the quicker elapsed time with a 6.512 at 209.69 mph, but Hartford’s brilliant .009 reaction time gave him the advantage he needed. Hartford’s 6.531 at 207.47 mph reached the finish line first by just .0022 second.

Coughlin was even sharper at the tree, launching with a nearly perfect .006 reaction time against Jeg Coughlin Jr. Troy powered to a 6.520 at 210.38 mph while Jeg slowed near the finish line, crossing in 6.594 seconds at 190.68 mph.

The results set up a Pro Stock final between Hartford and Coughlin, who combined for reaction times of .015 second in the semifinals.

Pro Stock Motorcycle semifinal recap

John Hall and Marc Ingwersen advanced to the Pro Stock Motorcycle final at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR following a pair of dramatic semifinals.

Hall survived a double red-light race against Ronald Procopio Jr. Hall left the starting line .0015 second too soon, but Procopio fouled first with a -.0424 reaction time, automatically handing the win to Hall. Hall continued to a 6.803-second pass at 198.33 mph, while Procopio ran 6.899 at 176.06 mph.

Ingwersen earned his place in the final with a .015 reaction time and a strong 6.797 at 197.89 mph. No. 1 qualifier Ryan Oehler encountered trouble downtrack and slowed to a 9.990 at 84.07 mph.

The results set up a Pro Stock Motorcycle final between Hall and Ingwersen, with each rider seeking the first Mission Foods Series victory at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.
