This weekend, champions will be crowned at the Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil, the 11th final race in the 2020 Camping World NHRA Drag Racing Series. Title are up for grabs in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, as well as the E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod series, Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, and Summit Racing E.T. Series.

The COVID shortened 2020 NHRA drag racing season will end this weekend with the Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with Camping World NHRA Drag Racing series champions crowned in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle. Also on the docket is the E3 Pro Mod series, SAMTech.edu Factory Stock Showdown, a full roster of Lucas Oil Drag Racing series sportsman action, and the Summit E.T. Racing Series.

In Top Fuel, Steve Torrence is on the verge of winning his third-straight championship in his Capco Contractors dragster. Torrence holds a lead of 101 points which means he doesn’t need to do much more than qualify in order to make it official. Doug Kalitta is the only driver that can still catch Torrence and he’d practically need to run the table in order to have a chance.

The race for the Funny Car title is between DSR teammates, Matt Hagan, Tommy Johnson Jr., Jack Beckman, and Ron Capps. Hagan’s lead over Johnson is 42 points while Beckman is 43 points back. Capps is on the fringe of contention, 163 points out of first place. The Las Vegas event features a points and a half, structure which means each round win is worth 30 points instead of the customary 20.

In Pro Stock, Erica Enders holds a lead of 55 points over her teammate, Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Jason Line, both of whom are retiring from the Pro Stock class after this weekend. The race for the Pro Stock Motorcycle title is between current leader Matt Smith, his teammate, Scotty Pollacheck, as well as Harley-Davidson teamamtes Eddie Krawiec and Andrew Hines. Smith’s advantage over Pollacheck and Krawiec is 78 points while Hines is 86 markers back.

The Las Vegas schedule also features the final event for the E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod series and the SAM Tech.edu Factory Stock Showdown. There are at least a half dozen drivers still in the running for the Pro Mod title including Dallas winner Brandon Snider, Steve Jackson, and former champ Mike Janis. By comparison, the SAM Tech Factory Stock Showdown has already crowned a champion after Aaron Stanfield wrapped up the title last week in Houston.
