Rick Steinke and his popular “Honk if parts fall off” ’67 Chevelle four-door was crowned the champion of the special eight-car exhibition of Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week entries held during the NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMax Dragway. Steinke’s four runs; 8.623, 8.742, 8.722, and 8.675, calculated to an average elapsed time of 8.691 seconds, which was more than enough to cover the 8.943-second average of runner-up Scott Brown.

The event showcased entries in the popular Street Race Small Block Power Adder class that is part of Hot Rod’s Drag Week, an annual event that features the world’s quickest and fastest street legal drag race cars. Drag Week racers make runs at four tracks over a five-day period and must drive their vehicles from track-to-track, stopping at checkpoints along the way.

In addition to Steinke and Brown, the zMax event included 2019 Drag Week participants Lisa Fischer,  Steve Haefner, Jason Bergeson, Jeff Oppenheim, Joe Jennings, and Drag Week champion Randall Reid. The Street Race Small Block Power Adder class is one of the most popular features at Drag Week with more than 40 entries each year. Racers in the SRSBPA class aim to complete the event with an average elapsed time as close to 8.50 seconds as possible without going under.
