Billy Torrence continues to dominate every time he shows up to race. Torrence beat his son, defending world champion Steve Torrence, to capture his fourth win in his sixth final.

Torrence left a hundredth behind his son but made a clean lap while Steve lost traction, allowing Billy to claim victory for the third time this season. That moved him to eighth place in the standings after both Capco Contractors teams stumbled at the NHRA Countdown to the Championship opener in Reading.

Billy Torrence defeated Kyle Wurtzel, Doug Kalitta and Leah Pritchett to reach the final round. Kalitta entered St. Louis as the most recent winner on tour and retained his hold on the Top Fuel standings despite losing in the second round at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals. He holds a two-point lead over Steve Torrence.

Steve Torrence beat Scott Palmer, Pat Dakin and Mike Salinas to reach his 12th final round of the season. It was his first final since the NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle in August. His win moved him up to second place after losing in the first round in Reading.

Salinas qualified in the No. 1 position and advanced to the semifinals before falling to Torrence. He moved up to third place in the standings thanks to another strong performance in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship. Salinas earned the third-most points during the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals, behind only Steve and Billy Torrence.

The NHRA Countdown to the Championship continues at the NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals from Oct. 11-13. You can grab tickets here.
