NHRA Top Fuel great Joe Amato talks about life after racing
Joe Amato joined NHRA reporter Lewis Bloom via Skype in the Wally Parks NHRA Studio delivered by Papa John’s to talk about what he has been up to since his retirement from drag racing.
Amato, who now shares residences in both Florida and Pennsylvania. talked about enjoying his life away from the race track. He travels extensively with his wife and still loves cars; his collection includes a Dodge Challenger Hellcat and he recently ordered a Dodge Demon.
Amato also spoke about two winner-take-all championship moments in his career: his loss to Dick LaHaie in 1987 at the Auto Club NHRA Finals and his win over Gary Ormsby in 1990 also at the season finale in Pomona. Finally, he spoke about Jimmy Prock, his former crew chief, and the fact he still would love to drive a Top Fuel car.
