The team from Heartland Park Topeka collected 71 points to take home the team championship while four individual racers earned NHRA Summit Racing Series West Central Division Championships and a trip to Pomona, Calif., for the Summit National Championship in November.

Racers from Heartland Park Topeka racked up 71 points and a commanding lead in the team championship as they beat Rock Falls Raceway and Brainerd International Raceway who were second and third with 54 and 53 points respectively. SRCA Dragstrip at 51 finished in fourth place, and Kansas International Raceway finished up fifth with 40.

The big winner of the weekend was Michael Shelton who took home a pair of trophies this weekend. Shelton won in Pro Bike and the Race of Champions Pro Bike event. For the Event win, Shelton went 9.528 seconds at 138.27 mph in a double breakout over Curtis Spraklin, Omaha, Neb., who went 8.754 seconds at 143.78 mph.  In the Race of Champions, Shelton ran a 9.45 second, 136.57 mph lap to capture the win.  Shelton was representing the SRCA Dragstrip from Great Bend.

In the Pro class it was Steve Stockton, Colfax, Wis., defeating Chris Wells, Lafayette, Colo., who brokeout. Stockton ran a 9.665 second, 140.93 mph winning lap. In Super Pro it was Glenn Gordon, Walcott, N.D., who captured the win over Austin McClure, Topeka, Kan., who was unable to make his dial in.

Rounding out the winners for the event was Brandon Schmall, Lino Lakes, Minn., who ran 12.211 seconds at 95.09 mph to capture the win in Sportsman over Lindsay Lippert, Wamgeo, Kan., who broke out.

All event winners will be headed to the Summit National Championship in November where they will battle division champions from across the country at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. The racers heading to Pomona for the Summit National Championship will face off with winners from NHRA’s other six divisions. To round out the 8-car field, a special drawing was held with the West Central Division winning the Bike class. Normally the Race of Champions winner would fill this wild card spot but with Michael Shelton winning both the event and the ROC, Curtis Spraklin will be the wild card entry in Pomona.

The High School event title went to Colton Wheeler who defeated Kiley Dunning in a double breakout. Wheeler, Wichita, Kan., went 97.96 mph in 12.822 seconds to overtake Dinning, Larned, Kan., and his '95 S10 at 12.084, 111.17.

Saturday's action in the Race of Champions also crowned individual winners. Chris Gray, Wichita, Kan., took home the win in Pro; Kyle Kunze, Persia, Iowa, raced to a solid win in Super Pro; Ryan Montford, Wichita, Kan., won in Sportsman; and Jason Azbill Jr., Cedar Falls, Iowa, in the ROC High School class.
