GALOT Motorsports Park in Benson, N.C., has joined the NHRA Member Track Network as part of Division 2, the Southeast Division.

“North Carolina is home to some of the most iconic tracks in NHRA Drag Racing,” said Division 2 Director Rich Schaefer. “Now part of the NHRA Member Track Network, GALOT Motorsports Park ushers in a new era of modern drag racing facilities and has reset the standard.”

GALOT Motorsports Park, formerly known as the Dunn-Benson Dragstrip, was purchased by current owner Earl Wells in August of 2015. The track features a full schedule of drag racing events from the end of March to early November, and headlining the 2016 schedule is the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 2 Meet, June 3-5.

“As we strive to produce a first class motorsports facility, we felt it was best for our customers and organization,” Wells said about joining the NHRA Member Track Network. “We are excited to host a Lucas Oil Divisional and look forward to working with the NHRA in the future.”

The NHRA Lucas Oil Series event in June will be contested in the eighth-mile format. It has been more than 20 years since a Division 2 points race was scheduled to be run in eighth-mile format and the GALOT Motorsports Park event revives the opportunity for racers to set eighth-mile national records during a Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. This will be the first event to count towards the 2017 JEGS Allstars points chase.

GALOT Motorsports Park offers a wide variety of amenities to racers and fans. The racetrack features 330 feet of climate controlled concrete to keep the surface temperature down, state-of-the-art traction equipment and a brand new lighting system. There’s seating for more than 9,000 spectators and a brand new concession stand with indoor seating. The facility also features two tower suites and a dedicated media center. Finally, there are more than 70 RV electrical hook-ups, rental garages and a speed shop on site that features RaceQuip Safety Products.

As an NHRA member track, the facility will be eligible to offer racers a variety of NHRA racing opportunities, including the NHRA Summit Racing Series, the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League, NHRA Jr. Street and the NHRA Drags: Street Legal Style presented by AAA. Additionally, the track has the opportunity to host NHRA’s specialty events including the National DRAGSTER Challenge, NHRA Summit King of the Track, and NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League Challenge, where racers compete for the coveted Wally trophy.

NHRA’s Division 2 is the Southeast Division. Division 2 features tracks from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico. Division 2 facilities host NHRA-sanctioned competitions throughout the year along with countless other events for the heartiest of drag racing competitors and fans.
