4:31 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 93 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 29.24 inches, adjusted altitude 3,923 feet, track temperature 126 degrees. The only #13 qualifier to win Indy in TF was Kelly Brown, 1979. Two winners from the #11 spot on the ladder in TF: Snake in 1970 and Johnny Abbott 1981 at the first 16 car TF field. McMillin has three runner-ups for the year and a career one win and five runner-ups. Team Kalitta is looking for a double up with Funny Car! Kalitta has one win and three runner-ups this year and a career record of 44 wins and 51 runner-ups. He has been in two prior final rounds here at INDY. Kalitta is 13 - 1 against McMillen in prior events and this is the first time they have faced each other in a final round. Kalitta gets away first, drops a hole, and has to watch McMillen quickly pull ahead at the 60 foot lights. McMillen looked to be on an easy win, until his engine drops a cylinder too. They run close together all the way to past the 660 feet lights, where McMillen's dragster just pulls slowly ahead for the three foot win. Just 0.03 difference in ET! WOW! Terry McMillen's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.005), 330 ft(0.021), 660ft(0.018). MOV: 0.0069 seconds (approximately 3 feet).
