First-round matchups set GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout
The first round matchups have been decided for the GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. The top three qualifiers for the specialty race got to call out their fellow competitors for the first round, but before Greg Anderson could make his first pick, Summit Motorsports Park owner and SEMA board member Bill Bader Jr. got the crowd excited.
“Two years ago, when I got the call from NHRA, and they told me that the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout was coming to America's racetrack, I was beyond excited, because there's only one of these in the world, and this year we're celebrating it on America's 250th birthday, right here in Norwalk, Ohio. What more could you ever want? So, on behalf of the Bader family, on behalf of the National Hot Rod Association, and on behalf of all of you wonderful fans, let's go pro stock racing,” Bader Jr. shared.
Anderson, who earned the right to select first because of the previous year’s points, won the 2024 Callout.
“Should we go with EE again?” he asked rhetorically, referring to KB Titan rival Erica Enders from Team Elite Motorsports. “Guys, let's do that.”
Arguably, one of the biggest Pro Stock rivalries will quickly face off in the first round of the callout, which was something Enders and her team were not surprised by.
“We definitely talked about it this morning in the crew chief lounge, and we were going back and forth, and I said Greg's probably picking me, and GS [Greg Stanfield] said no, he's picking me,” Enders said. “It's definitely a big rivalry. It has been for the 22 years that I've been racing Pro Stock. He's always been the one that we've chased, and we've been able to beat him a few times. Hopefully, we are today.”
Then, it was time for Anderson’s teammate and reigning world champ, Dallas Glenn, to step up and make his selection. Glenn had the battle of the aftermarket parts powerhouses in mind: JEGS vs. Summit.
“We're here in the beautiful Summit Motorsports Park. Summit Racing Equipment is an hour away,” Glenn taunted. “So it's only fitting with Summit on my chest to go after the rival Jeg ‘the Natural’.”
“We’ve been working extremely hard at Elite. We’re still trailing a little bit - we got a little blood running out of the corner of our mouth,” Coughlin said. “We’re excited to get out there, excited to get called out here, and ready to go racing.”
Eric Latino was up next and admitted that he was surprised last year when his pseudo-teammate Matt Hartford called him out.
“I’d love to get him back, but you know what? I'm going to try to line it up so it’s a KB Titan -Elite matchup… I'm going to call out my little buddy right there, Aaron Stanfield,” Latino said.
“It really doesn’t matter,” said Aaron, the Chicago winner. “I’m going to go up there and qualify and try and turn the win light on at the same time, so it really doesn’t matter who’s in the other lane.”
That left last year’s Callout winner, Matt Hartford, to race Greg Stanfield.
“Not only is this track the best in the country, but now we've got the best conditions. It's going to be fast out there,” said Hartford, who is flying the GETTRX colors on his Pro Stock Camaro.
Greg, whose last win came at Sonoma last year, shared that this is a titanic matchup for him.
“His crew chief [Eddie Guarnaccia] was my crew chief back in the day,” Greg said. “It's an honor to be in this race. Thanks to GETTRX and the Bader family for such an awesome facility, and I'm actually excited to race Matt and Eddie.”
All three rounds will take place on Saturday, with the first round set for 11:30 a.m., the semifinals slated for 1:15 p.m., and the final round at 3:30 p.m.
