The NHRA Drag Racing community turned out in full force to remember legendary racer Bob Glidden, who passed away Sunday evening. Below are memories posted to social media from racers across the drag racing landscape who wished to share their condolences to the Glidden family as well as their memories of one of the most important figures in NHRA Drag Racing history.

Earlier this week, our sport lost a legend and I lost a great friend. Bob was one of a kind and a huge part of my career. I was a big fan of Bob’s when I was a kid. I had the pleasure of getting to know him when I drove for Schumacher in 2006 and became close to him when we both drove for Cunningham in 2009 & 2010. Being that he was from a generation where women weren’t allowed to do the things we are now, I wasn’t sure what to expect. From day one, he was so kind and respectful. He took me under his wing and taught me things that only he could have. I shared a couple stories on WFO last night but I’ll share them again anyway. When we won our first ever pro stock race in Chicago in 2012, Bob was the FIRST person to call and congratulate me. I was in the press room, in the middle of interviews when my phone rang. I excused myself and took the call. I’ll never forget the excitement in his voice. In 2014 he helped me through one of the worst slumps I’ve experienced as a pro stock driver. He would call me and talk to me for hours...just trying to help me get to the bottom of the problem. There wasn’t a race that Bob was at, that he didn’t come to our pit. He was so respected and so loved. Just last week, Etta, Billy and Shannon were gracious enough to allow me to visit Bob at home. I’m so thankful for the time I got to spend with him there. I was able to thank him for his friendship and the huge roll he played in my career. I shared photos with him and we talked and laughed about the past. He was so kind and complementary to me. He told me how proud he was of me for my talent behind the wheel and for never giving up even when the world was against us. Before I left we said I love you and he told me “I’ll see ya when I see ya, kid.” I knew it was the last time I’d see Bob here but my faith knows that I will see him again one day. Thanks for the memories, Bob. I will miss you more than you know. Rest easy, Legend. ❤️🙏🏼 #bobglidden #legend
