Pacific Raceways, home of the Protect the Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Lucas Oil and other NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events for nearly three decades, has received preliminary approval to build a new facility that will drive innovation in the Northwest motorsports industry and provide the necessary capital to improve the historic facility, including a resurfaced dragstrip and road course, new restroom facilities, and upgraded concessions.

The Pacific Innovation Center's phase 1 is slated for 105,000 square feet of commercial space and is currently taking reservations at PacificRaceways.com. The PIC's uses include car storage and maintenance, retail, and race car manufacturing and fabrication, as well as other uses by companies seeking to collaborate with state research facilities on innovation and prototype manufacturing for the automotive renewable energy industry.

Total buildout includes up to 400,000 square feet with the initial phase slated to be complete in early 2017.

The project has strong support from neighboring cities of Kent and Auburn, the King County Council, and the state governor.
