In advance of this weekend’s NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Alexis DeJoria made a stop in New York City this morning to sit down with Gary Gastelu of FOXNews.com Live’s FOX Car Report program. During the five-minute segment, which is above, DeJoria talked about a range of topics that, of course, included the Summernationals, an event at which she was the runner-up last season. DeJoria and Gastelu also covered DeJoria’s career, what it’s like to drive the powerful and sometimes unpredictable Funny Car, the success of women in the NHRA, and DeJoria’s season to date, which includes a win in Las Vegas in April.

DeJoria is in her fifth full year of racing in the nitro Funny Car ranks. To date, she has four victories in seven final-round appearances and two top-10 points finishes. DeJoria, the daughter of entrepreneur John Paul DeJoria, also has two NHRA national event wins in the Sportsman ranks, where she honed her driving skills before making her Pro debut in Dallas in 2011.

DeJoria enters this weekend’s event in Englishtown ranked in the top 10. In addition to her win in Las Vegas, DeJoria’s 2016 campaign includes a No. 1 start in Charlotte and resetting both ends of her career best in Topeka, where she ran 3.875 seconds at 332.18 mph.
