Atlanta winner Ron Capps ran his win streak to eight rounds by winning his second straight event title with the NAPA Brakes Dodge Charger.

World champ JR. Todd was the heavy favorite based on a trio of 4.0-second passes while Capps’ mount had been all over the place, from low e.t. of eliminations 3.99 in the first round to a couple of traction-plagued passes in the second round and semifinals, but it was Todd’s DHL Toyota that lost traction this time just off the starting line.

The win for Capps is the 63rd of his career, 62 of which have come in Funny Car and his first win at Virginia Motorsports Park, the only track on the circuit at which he had never won.
