Blake Alexander rode out a wild blower explosion in round one while racing Shawn Langdon. The two were locked in a tight battle when the engine exploded and shed the Pronto Auto Service Center body from the car. Langdon got the win, 4,01 to 4.12, and Alexander expertly guided his damaged racer to a stop. Alexander was checked out by medical staff onsite and cleared.

“It had a couple of holes [cylinders] out but it’s raceday and I don’t want to lift,” said Alexander. “ It just blew up; I’ve never been through one of those before. I’ve been on fire before but that was a whole different experience.

Alexander won’t let the setback slow him or prevent him from his next scheduled appearance, at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals in late July.

“I have three bodies and two cars; I’m going to have to spend some money on injectors and blocks and stuff like that to get back to where we need to be going to Sonoma, and well probably sneak up on it,” he said. “We had a really good car this weekend; we qualified fifth and ran 3.92. We’ve just got to get back to the shop and make some repairs.”
